SLICE 7 of 31 Tomorrow

Wednesday night.
And I am just back from the copy shop.
Twenty-five copies of a resume.
Slate blue.
Job Fair tomorrow.
I will get up early.
Pray.
Review job postings.
List my top ten.
Do morning duty.
Teach all day.
Administer the last two sessions
of the state reading and writing test.
Dismiss my students at 4:00
Then jump into my black and gray suit.
Professional dress please.
Drive ten miles back into town.
Jump out of the car.
Square my shoulders.
Take a deep breath
and trust
that there is a much bigger plan
than I can fathom.
And everything
will be ok.

I think it's wonderful that you wrote to tell everyone, & you wrote a poem-not so easy sometimes. You always seem like the most thoughtful & caring teacher & I can't imagine that won't shine through in your 'professional' suit. They don't call them power suits for nothing! Best of my wishes go to you tomorrow; I'll send waves across town to you!

I loved the line where you put the "professional dress only" in italics. That little bit broke up the text and sort of gave me that sense of loss of control we have when looking for a job. Best LUCK!! new opportunities await you.

What a tough thing to have to do after a day like that. You and your sons have been in my thoughts. Best of luck because you deserve to have some good news come your way. Hope it went well.
