National Poetry Month 2022- Foundlings and Wonderments #2- Offering

When I write poetry, I pay closer attention to what is going on around me. Yesterday, I was running errands with my son. At one point, we got a little lost and pulled into a bank parking lot to turn around. We were blessed to witness this scene. My son, in a hurry to get things done and annoyed with me for getting lost, was irritated. I was enchanted and knew I had found my "wonderment" for the day.

"Offering"

Bank parking lot

Friday busy

Comes to full halt

As bent-backed waitress

Clad in paisley housecoat

And corduroy slippers

leaning on purple cane

Shuffles across traffic lanes

Gingerly balancing

Tupperware container

Of sloshing water.

Lone black-headed goose

Sniffs, then slurps

appreciatively.

What a moment! What a wonderment! I'm glad you were there to witness and to bring us this small story of generosity. Such a contrast between her Tupperware of water and the bank parking lot. One so personal, the other so impersonal.

So much wonderment and joy in your radiant and grace filled words and heart, Carol💗

I love how we don't fully understand "waitress" until the last lines. Wonderment indeed!
