Today's poem is a golden shovel.
"Señor Sleep"
That first month or two, although
I play hard and long, my mom soon discovers that puppies

sleep a lot. Actually, she learns that puppies are
sleeping machines. In mom's office, I curl myself into a little
ball on top of her teacher bag, dreaming that I am snuggled with bundles
of brothers and sisters, enormous piles of
puppies. I greet at CaPR graduation, but only have enough energy
to be my cute puppy self for about fifteen minutes, then they
have to be content taking pictures of me asleep by the graduation sign for the next three hours. Usually
I go with mama to all her teacher workshops; I play until the keynote starts, then sleep

That is A LOT of sleep. Our dog is 2 years old now and still sleeps considerably. He loves to spend his evenings just lounging by the couch.

I always thought that that's when the growth most happens, too. Lovely to write this one for puppy Rooney!
