POETRY FRIDAY

Denver at sunset, taken about five minutes from my house, by Jon Bennett, Wikimedia Commons

 A poem I found in my current re-read, ONE THOUSAND GIFTS, by Ann Voskamp. When I looked at the afternotes to find out where it was from, I thought Voskamp had originally read it in THE SABBATH by Abraham Joshua Heschel. When Tabatha read it, she said it's actually by G. K. Chesterton. I was all set to write to Ann Voskamp to tell her about her error, and then I discovered I had actually looked at the notes for Chapter Four instead of the notes for Chapter Five, so it was me who was making the error! So sorry if I misled anyone!
"Evening"
Here dies another day
During which I have had eyes, ears, hands
And the great world round me;
And with tomorrow begins another
Why am I allowed two?
G.K. Chesterton
Tabatha Yeatts is hosting Poetry Friday today.

Well, you know I love the sky pictures, Carol, & this is beautiful, plus the poem is so interesting, almost contemplating twice blessed. Thank you!

The gift of another day...we are blessed to be twice blessed.

Isn't that fascinating! I have loved this poem/grace for years, but I thought it was by G.K. Chesterton (and titled "Evening"). ?? It's a beautiful thought to start a new day (or year!).

This just might become a nightly gratitude. I love how it acknowledges the death of the day and spins the simple concreteness of "eyes, ears, hands/And the great world round me".

Thanks, Carol!

What a blessed gift of another day. It's remarkable, isn't it? This poem is wonderful. The sky along with the poem match perfectly. WOW. Thank you for showing me this poem. I love G.K. Chesterton. I have a quote from him on my sidebar.
