NIGHT AFTER THE NEWBERY AND CALDECOTT

The Caldecott and Newbery were announced today. The last couple of years, I haven't even heard of many of the books. This year, thanks to following the kids' lit blogs,  I did ok, actually better than usual.

CALDECOTT- INVENTION OF HUGO CABRET
I read it and loved it and Isaiah, one of my non reading middle school sons, read it one sitting.  I'm surprised, a little, that it snuck in under the picture book wire.

CALDECOTT HONOR
KNUFFLEBUNNY TWO
Yet another terrific read by one of my favorite picture book authors. Mo Willems always amazes me with the way he packs so, so much into his pictures and develops such great stories with such a minimal amount of text!

NEWBERY- GOOD MASTERS! SWEET LADIES
I haven't read this one. Found a copy on Amazon for $2.79 tonight and snapped it up.

NEWBERY HONOR-
WEDNESDAY WARS
ELIJAH OF BUXTON
I read and loved both of these. I would have been really happy to see either of them win.

Carol,
I found your blog through Kyle's.

I am SO excited that you started up a reading blog! I always loved snatching suggestions from you when we worked together, and this is the next best thing. CPC is also one of my favorite authors, and I can't wait to read Elijah of Buxton. An added bonus: my students cannot stop asking questions about the Civil War and especially Lincoln's assassination right now! (I have no idea what prompted this, but I'm not complaining.)

If you'd like some help with formatting and uploading pictures and links, I'd be happy to spend an afternoon teaching you. I know things are probably crazy with CCIRA coming up, and with your unofficial job as an extraordinary mother and chauffeur... but I'd love to catch up.
Always, L
