"Muscle Memory"


Sister leaves message.

Returning her call

I somehow dial 

my mom’s number

which we disconnected 

the weekend

after we wrote

her obituary.


Evidently

heart memory,

like muscle memory, 

lasts forever

or maybe even 

a little longer...

    Heart memory . . . I can't bring myself to delete my brother's name out of my favorite contacts list, even though I'm sure someone else has his phone number by now.
