SLICE #21

Tonight
my head hurts
my throat hurts
my chest hurts
every bone in my body hurts

i went to work today
and wished and wished and wished
all day that i had not
i staggered home afterwards
stopping only long enough
to pick up some ibuprofen
that i gulped down in the car
in the parking lot at walgreen's

when  got home
i emailed my Bible study leader
to tell her i wasn't going tonight
and now i am laying on the couch
with the family room spinning
endlessly

while my black lab
gazes mournfully
into my eyes
begging begging begging
for her evening walk

she has clearly never heard
the expression
sick as a dog

  1. Sometimes you just have to relax and take time for yourself. I know I need to more often. You are doing an exceptional job!

  5. Carol,
How did you manage all of that feeling so sick? You continue to amaze me. I hope you are back on your feet and feeling better soon. I know this is no time for jokes, but your ending of your poem did make me smile a bit.

  6. Oh dear Carol. Please take care of yourself! I hope you will take tomorrow off, too. You need to rest I think your body is telling you that! If I lived close I would come walk your dog. Loved that you kept your sense of humor, though. Blessings always!

  9. Your posts always amaze me. I can't write like that on my greatest days! I hope you got over this little bug, your dog go the walk he wanted and you are back in full swing, as best you can be right now.
