POETRY FRIDAY

I've been writing haiku with Mary Lee all week.

"Thin Place"

For ancient Celts, certain geography was seen as sacred because the distance between the human and the divine felt particularly thin. God was near in that place."
From the URBAN SKYE advent devotional

I read poetry
Sky thins, holy tiptoes in
soul eyes see clearly.

"morning drive"

grey white cloud blanket
sleeps atop mountains waiting
for sun’s wake up call

(c) Carol Wilcox, 2014

Dawn’s dark lifts mornings
curtain to pink yellow orange
hallelujah sky

“morning"
Sun’s sure chariot
pulls new possibilities
over horizon

"Conflict”
OR "mother to son (with apologies to Langston Hughes)

we heave brick after
brick ‘til wall between us is
impenetrable

 “Colorado Winter”
(a double haiku)

Saturday I peel
off sweatshirt stride joyfully
four miles behind dog

Sunday dog drags me
shivering in coat hat gloves
mile of misery

Anastasia Suen is hosting Poetry Friday today.

  1. You pack so much emotion into your haiku, Carol! Very impressive. I'm right there with you, shivering, seeing the sun, peering over those bricks.

  3. Carol, Dawn is good to your poetry muse. Appreciations for sharing these quiet moments at dawns early light, which to be is a clearer, more hopeful time than sunset.
And LH's Mother to Son is one of my favorites - I felt fortunate to read it once to a dinner audience at a benefit for our women's shelter. This post is so perfect for me - thank you.
