SLICE #18- MISSING HER

My mom has always been one of the smartest people I know.
A working mom because she couldn't stand to stay home.
A world traveler.
Articulate.
Fun.
And now she's not.

My mom has always been a go-go-go-er.
The theater. Symphony. Bridge clubs.
Philanthropic luncheons.
Dinner with friends almost every night.
And now she isn't.

My mother has always been a reader.
Literature. Best sellers. Romance novels.
A million magazine subscriptions.
Two newspapers every morning.
And now she isn't.

My mom has always cared for a zillion people.
Volunteered for charities- the first to arrive and the last to leave.
Driven friends to doctors and chemo appointments.
The one people always asked for help.
And now she can't.

My mom has always been there for me.
Asked about my day.
Asked about the boys.
Told me she loved me.
And now she can't.

I miss my mom.

  1. Carol, BIG BIG hugs to you. I'm so sorry about your mom. I know this is so difficult for you, but I'm hoping that writing your story, your mom's story is healing for you. "But the Lord stood with me and gave me strength." 2 Timothy 4:17

  2. That repeating line was powerful! I was working on a post tonight about missing my mother-in-law (maybe it will be tomorrow's post?). Your post brought tears to my eyes. We just never get over missing them, do we? No matter how many days, weeks, years we have, it's just never enough.

Your mom sounds like she was a fabulous woman. I feel like I know her just from reading your poem. (I think you are ready for April as well! **wink wink**)

    Hugs to you,
    Cathy

  4. It's as nice a tribute and thank you to your mom that anyone could ask, Carol. I hope you share with her.

  6. This is so beautifully written - and so sad. I hope the slices help to heal the pain you are feeling during this time. Thanks for sharing your mom with us.
