SLICE #19- ROAD TRIP?
Tuesdaythree days until spring break.
And I am considering
the possibility
of a road trip.
I need to finish taxes
File papers
Wash walls
Rake the yard
Get the car serviced
Go to the dentist
But I am considering
the possibility of a road trip
For weeks
I have been checking flights
Maybe I could fly down
Just for a couple of days
Phoenix in late March
During spring break
Especially this year
during Easter
Passover too
is way more
than this paying-for-college mom
can afford
But I am considering
the possibility of a road trip
I imagine
climbing into my car
early, early in the morning
long before the light comes
and driving
driving
driving
the 14 hours
to show up
on my son's
doorstep.
I imagine
hugging him
filling his cabinets and refrigerator
doing laundry
sitting in the bleachers at football practice
eating In-n-Out Burger
Maybe I could even talk him into
a little Spring baseball
The Colorado Rockies
are in Phoenix.
Tuesday
Three days until spring break
And I am considering
the possibility of a road trip.
The anticipation is so evident in your poem. You want to, you know you need to do things at home, it's too much money, but you want to see that boy. Tough decision, but I'm right there with you. Will your heart or wallet win out?
ReplyDeleteI think you should...I read Kim's post and was inspired last week. We are going to go by car. I'm just hoping for good weather. Keep us posted. I think Son # 1 would love it. xo
ReplyDeleteGo for it! Spring Break is made for road trips...especially one with a destination as sweet as the one you've been dreaming of.
ReplyDeleteGo for the road trip! (Bring the taxes with you if you must!) You'll never get these days back. (Plus, I'd love to live vicariously through your travels.)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely surprise it would be for your son! A lovely way to spend Easter!
ReplyDeleteYou will have to tell us how big the smile on your son's face is when you see him.
ReplyDeleteCarol,
ReplyDeleteI'm weighing the same decision. I have taxes to do, closets to clean, and much life to get back in order from months of keeping up with school, but I'm thinking of a road trip. My mom is trying to talk me into coming to visit - which would also mean I'd get to catch up with my daughter. I'm having a hard time deciding should I stay or go. I'll be watching to see what you decide.
You have me thinking about a road trip. (By the way, I love the way you repeated that throughout your piece as you moved us through what needs done, but what you would accomplish by going.)
